Omschrijving:
Myanmar is als reisbestemming op het moment erg populair. Dankzij de prachtige foto's, tips en reisverhalen van diverse reisreporters mag het land zich na de overstromingen in de afgelopen jaren, helaas ook dit jaar weer, en ondanks de militaire junta weer volop in de belangstelling weten.
Het onlangs verschenen boek van Peter de Ruiter 'Beelden van Birma' geeft een prachtig beeld van dit land. De ondertitel 'Het land waar de klok achteruit loopt' geeft al aan hoe het land er door het strikte militaire regiem voor staat.
Toen ik, Jan, in 1990 voor het eerst naar Indonesië ging, was de onderliggende gedachte "Ik moet nú gaan want over 10 jaar is het land helemaal veranderd". En het is veranderd, niet alleen ten goede kan ik wel zeggen na 9 maal Indonesië bezocht te hebben.
Als er nog één land bestaat waar deze gedachte voor geldt, dan is het wel Myanmar. De militaire junta heeft er de afgelopen jaren voor gezorgd dat zowel het land als de bevolking bijna volledig voor de buitenwereld werden afgeschermd. Internet en mobiele telefonie zijn in het land nauwelijks bereikbaar, hulpgoederen worden veelal geweigerd of verdwijnen in een luguber circuit.
Myanmar is daardoor tot de armste landen ter wereld gaan behoren, zo niet het allerarmste, ondanks de vruchtbare landbouwgronden, de rijke bodemschatten, de prachtige natuur en de vriendelijke bevolking.
Dit laatste is voor ons dan ook de reden om tóch naar dit land af te reizen, de mensen die het hardst te lijden hebben onder de militaire dictatuur. Het grootste gedeelte van de opbrengst van hun harde werken, verdwijnt in de zakken van weinigen. Daardoor blijven ze verstoken van welke vooruitgang en ontwikkeling dan ook, het land staat stil.
We zullen een groot deel van onze bagage dan ook inruimen met alle zeepjes, shampoo's, kammen, e.d. die we de afgelopen jaren op al onze reizen verzamelden als souvenier. We zullen daarmee het land niet veranderen, maar we kunnen wél de mensen een hart onder de riem steken en hen bemoedigen in de hoop dat ze ooit tóch nog eens van hun juk verlost worden.
We zullen ook zoveel als mogelijk gebruik maken van hotels, vervoersmogelijkheden, gidsen e.d. die niet onder contrôle staan van de regering. Natuurlijk zullen we hier niet helemaal onderuit kunnen, het onaangetaste culturele erfgoed van het land, de bezienswaardigheden in Yangon, Mandalay, Pyin U Lwin, Bagan, Kalaw en Inle Lake, is nu eenmaal niet in handen van het Birmeense volk.
Ons motto zal, zéker in Birma, blijven: "Wij gaan nooit zomaar op reis maar willen ervaren hoe de mensen dáár leven. Deze gedachte maakt onze vakanties altijd heel bijzonder, soms ook wel zwaar, maar het verrijkt je eigen leven".

Omschrijving:
Myanmar is als reisbestemming op het moment erg populair. Dankzij de prachtige foto's, tips en reisverhalen van diverse reisreporters mag het land zich na de overstromingen in de afgelopen jaren, helaas ook dit jaar weer, en ondanks de militaire junta weer volop in de belangstelling weten.
Het onlangs verschenen boek van Peter de Ruiter 'Beelden van Birma' geeft een prachtig beeld van dit land. De ondertitel 'Het land waar de klok achteruit loopt' geeft al aan hoe het land er door het strikte militaire regiem voor staat.
Toen ik, Jan, in 1990 voor het eerst naar Indonesië ging, was de onderliggende gedachte "Ik moet nú gaan want over 10 jaar is het land helemaal veranderd". En het is veranderd, niet alleen ten goede kan ik wel zeggen na 9 maal Indonesië bezocht te hebben.
Als er nog één land bestaat waar deze gedachte voor geldt, dan is het wel Myanmar. De militaire junta heeft er de afgelopen jaren voor gezorgd dat zowel het land als de bevolking bijna volledig voor de buitenwereld werden afgeschermd. Internet en mobiele telefonie zijn in het land nauwelijks bereikbaar, hulpgoederen worden veelal geweigerd of verdwijnen in een luguber circuit.
Myanmar is daardoor tot de armste landen ter wereld gaan behoren, zo niet het allerarmste, ondanks de vruchtbare landbouwgronden, de rijke bodemschatten, de prachtige natuur en de vriendelijke bevolking.
Dit laatste is voor ons dan ook de reden om tóch naar dit land af te reizen, de mensen die het hardst te lijden hebben onder de militaire dictatuur. Het grootste gedeelte van de opbrengst van hun harde werken, verdwijnt in de zakken van weinigen. Daardoor blijven ze verstoken van welke vooruitgang en ontwikkeling dan ook, het land staat stil.
We zullen een groot deel van onze bagage dan ook inruimen met alle zeepjes, shampoo's, kammen, e.d. die we de afgelopen jaren op al onze reizen verzamelden als souvenier. We zullen daarmee het land niet veranderen, maar we kunnen wél de mensen een hart onder de riem steken en hen bemoedigen in de hoop dat ze ooit tóch nog eens van hun juk verlost worden.
We zullen ook zoveel als mogelijk gebruik maken van hotels, vervoersmogelijkheden, gidsen e.d. die niet onder contrôle staan van de regering. Natuurlijk zullen we hier niet helemaal onderuit kunnen, het onaangetaste culturele erfgoed van het land, de bezienswaardigheden in Yangon, Mandalay, Pyin U Lwin, Bagan, Kalaw en Inle Lake, is nu eenmaal niet in handen van het Birmeense volk.
Ons motto zal, zéker in Birma, blijven: "Wij gaan nooit zomaar op reis maar willen ervaren hoe de mensen dáár leven. Deze gedachte maakt onze vakanties altijd heel bijzonder, soms ook wel zwaar, maar het verrijkt je eigen leven".

Omschrijving:
Myanmar is als reisbestemming op het moment erg populair. Dankzij de prachtige foto's, tips en reisverhalen van diverse reisreporters mag het land zich na de overstromingen in de afgelopen jaren, helaas ook dit jaar weer, en ondanks de militaire junta weer volop in de belangstelling weten.
Het onlangs verschenen boek van Peter de Ruiter 'Beelden van Birma' geeft een prachtig beeld van dit land. De ondertitel 'Het land waar de klok achteruit loopt' geeft al aan hoe het land er door het strikte militaire regiem voor staat.
Toen ik, Jan, in 1990 voor het eerst naar Indonesië ging, was de onderliggende gedachte "Ik moet nú gaan want over 10 jaar is het land helemaal veranderd". En het is veranderd, niet alleen ten goede kan ik wel zeggen na 9 maal Indonesië bezocht te hebben.
Als er nog één land bestaat waar deze gedachte voor geldt, dan is het wel Myanmar. De militaire junta heeft er de afgelopen jaren voor gezorgd dat zowel het land als de bevolking bijna volledig voor de buitenwereld werden afgeschermd. Internet en mobiele telefonie zijn in het land nauwelijks bereikbaar, hulpgoederen worden veelal geweigerd of verdwijnen in een luguber circuit.
Myanmar is daardoor tot de armste landen ter wereld gaan behoren, zo niet het allerarmste, ondanks de vruchtbare landbouwgronden, de rijke bodemschatten, de prachtige natuur en de vriendelijke bevolking.
Dit laatste is voor ons dan ook de reden om tóch naar dit land af te reizen, de mensen die het hardst te lijden hebben onder de militaire dictatuur. Het grootste gedeelte van de opbrengst van hun harde werken, verdwijnt in de zakken van weinigen. Daardoor blijven ze verstoken van welke vooruitgang en ontwikkeling dan ook, het land staat stil.
We zullen een groot deel van onze bagage dan ook inruimen met alle zeepjes, shampoo's, kammen, e.d. die we de afgelopen jaren op al onze reizen verzamelden als souvenier. We zullen daarmee het land niet veranderen, maar we kunnen wél de mensen een hart onder de riem steken en hen bemoedigen in de hoop dat ze ooit tóch nog eens van hun juk verlost worden.
We zullen ook zoveel als mogelijk gebruik maken van hotels, vervoersmogelijkheden, gidsen e.d. die niet onder contrôle staan van de regering. Natuurlijk zullen we hier niet helemaal onderuit kunnen, het onaangetaste culturele erfgoed van het land, de bezienswaardigheden in Yangon, Mandalay, Pyin U Lwin, Bagan, Kalaw en Inle Lake, is nu eenmaal niet in handen van het Birmeense volk.
Ons motto zal, zéker in Birma, blijven: "Wij gaan nooit zomaar op reis maar willen ervaren hoe de mensen dáár leven. Deze gedachte maakt onze vakanties altijd heel bijzonder, soms ook wel zwaar, maar het verrijkt je eigen leven".

Omschrijving:
Myanmar is als reisbestemming op het moment erg populair. Dankzij de prachtige foto's, tips en reisverhalen van diverse reisreporters mag het land zich na de overstromingen in de afgelopen jaren, helaas ook dit jaar weer, en ondanks de militaire junta weer volop in de belangstelling weten.
Het onlangs verschenen boek van Peter de Ruiter 'Beelden van Birma' geeft een prachtig beeld van dit land. De ondertitel 'Het land waar de klok achteruit loopt' geeft al aan hoe het land er door het strikte militaire regiem voor staat.
Toen ik, Jan, in 1990 voor het eerst naar Indonesië ging, was de onderliggende gedachte "Ik moet nú gaan want over 10 jaar is het land helemaal veranderd". En het is veranderd, niet alleen ten goede kan ik wel zeggen na 9 maal Indonesië bezocht te hebben.
Als er nog één land bestaat waar deze gedachte voor geldt, dan is het wel Myanmar. De militaire junta heeft er de afgelopen jaren voor gezorgd dat zowel het land als de bevolking bijna volledig voor de buitenwereld werden afgeschermd. Internet en mobiele telefonie zijn in het land nauwelijks bereikbaar, hulpgoederen worden veelal geweigerd of verdwijnen in een luguber circuit.
Myanmar is daardoor tot de armste landen ter wereld gaan behoren, zo niet het allerarmste, ondanks de vruchtbare landbouwgronden, de rijke bodemschatten, de prachtige natuur en de vriendelijke bevolking.
Dit laatste is voor ons dan ook de reden om tóch naar dit land af te reizen, de mensen die het hardst te lijden hebben onder de militaire dictatuur. Het grootste gedeelte van de opbrengst van hun harde werken, verdwijnt in de zakken van weinigen. Daardoor blijven ze verstoken van welke vooruitgang en ontwikkeling dan ook, het land staat stil.
We zullen een groot deel van onze bagage dan ook inruimen met alle zeepjes, shampoo's, kammen, e.d. die we de afgelopen jaren op al onze reizen verzamelden als souvenier. We zullen daarmee het land niet veranderen, maar we kunnen wél de mensen een hart onder de riem steken en hen bemoedigen in de hoop dat ze ooit tóch nog eens van hun juk verlost worden.
We zullen ook zoveel als mogelijk gebruik maken van hotels, vervoersmogelijkheden, gidsen e.d. die niet onder contrôle staan van de regering. Natuurlijk zullen we hier niet helemaal onderuit kunnen, het onaangetaste culturele erfgoed van het land, de bezienswaardigheden in Yangon, Mandalay, Pyin U Lwin, Bagan, Kalaw en Inle Lake, is nu eenmaal niet in handen van het Birmeense volk.
Ons motto zal, zéker in Birma, blijven: "Wij gaan nooit zomaar op reis maar willen ervaren hoe de mensen dáár leven. Deze gedachte maakt onze vakanties altijd heel bijzonder, soms ook wel zwaar, maar het verrijkt je eigen leven".

[description] => Sinds een aantal jaren maken wij, Christien en Jan, reizen naar landen waar je soms in situaties belandt, die een diepe indruk achter laten en je ook niet loslaten als je weer terug bent in ons welvaartsland. In stilte hopen we altijd op bijzondere ontmoetingen met mensen in hun eigen cultuur en omgeving, méér dan zomaar een ontmoeting. Wij gaan nooit zomaar op reis maar willen ervaren hoe de mensen dáár leven. Deze gedachte maakt onze vakanties altijd heel bijzonder, soms ook wel zwaar, maar het verrijkt je eigen leven.
Ikzelf (65) reis sinds 1990 door Azië. Sinds 13 jaar reis ik samen met mijn vrouw, Christien (57). Samen zijn we op Java en Bali geweest, op Sri Lanka en in India. In oktober 2008 maakten we een rondreis door Vietnam, we trokken van Hanoi naar Saigon, met als afsluiting nog 4 dagen in Hong Kong. We reizen bijna altijd met een auto met chauffeur, om zoveel mogelijk van het land te zien waarbij we de route zelf bepalen.
Tot 1 april 2009 waren we in Marokko en in oktober van dat jaar maakten we een rondreis door het noorden van Vietnam en het zuiden van China. In oktober 2010 maakten we een indrukwekkende rondreis door Myanmar en in oktober 2011 waren we in Bangkok, Cambodja, Vietnam en wederom in het zuiden van China. In oktober 2012 waren we weer in het zuiden van China en maakten we aansluitend een rondreis door Maleisië. In 2013 waren we op Malta en in het prachtige Nepal, een bijzondere reis. In 2014 wederom in China en in Thailand en Laos en in 2015 in India en Nepal.
Ik ben bovendien een fanatiek stripverzamelaar en een geboren Limburger!

[description] => Myanmar is als reisbestemming op het moment erg populair. Dankzij de prachtige foto's, tips en reisverhalen van diverse reisreporters mag het land zich na de overstromingen in de afgelopen jaren, helaas ook dit jaar weer, en ondanks de militaire junta weer volop in de belangstelling weten.
Het onlangs verschenen boek van Peter de Ruiter 'Beelden van Birma' geeft een prachtig beeld van dit land. De ondertitel 'Het land waar de klok achteruit loopt' geeft al aan hoe het land er door het strikte militaire regiem voor staat.
Toen ik, Jan, in 1990 voor het eerst naar Indonesië ging, was de onderliggende gedachte "Ik moet nú gaan want over 10 jaar is het land helemaal veranderd". En het is veranderd, niet alleen ten goede kan ik wel zeggen na 9 maal Indonesië bezocht te hebben.
Als er nog één land bestaat waar deze gedachte voor geldt, dan is het wel Myanmar. De militaire junta heeft er de afgelopen jaren voor gezorgd dat zowel het land als de bevolking bijna volledig voor de buitenwereld werden afgeschermd. Internet en mobiele telefonie zijn in het land nauwelijks bereikbaar, hulpgoederen worden veelal geweigerd of verdwijnen in een luguber circuit.
Myanmar is daardoor tot de armste landen ter wereld gaan behoren, zo niet het allerarmste, ondanks de vruchtbare landbouwgronden, de rijke bodemschatten, de prachtige natuur en de vriendelijke bevolking.
Dit laatste is voor ons dan ook de reden om tóch naar dit land af te reizen, de mensen die het hardst te lijden hebben onder de militaire dictatuur. Het grootste gedeelte van de opbrengst van hun harde werken, verdwijnt in de zakken van weinigen. Daardoor blijven ze verstoken van welke vooruitgang en ontwikkeling dan ook, het land staat stil.
We zullen een groot deel van onze bagage dan ook inruimen met alle zeepjes, shampoo's, kammen, e.d. die we de afgelopen jaren op al onze reizen verzamelden als souvenier. We zullen daarmee het land niet veranderen, maar we kunnen wél de mensen een hart onder de riem steken en hen bemoedigen in de hoop dat ze ooit tóch nog eens van hun juk verlost worden.
We zullen ook zoveel als mogelijk gebruik maken van hotels, vervoersmogelijkheden, gidsen e.d. die niet onder contrôle staan van de regering. Natuurlijk zullen we hier niet helemaal onderuit kunnen, het onaangetaste culturele erfgoed van het land, de bezienswaardigheden in Yangon, Mandalay, Pyin U Lwin, Bagan, Kalaw en Inle Lake, is nu eenmaal niet in handen van het Birmeense volk.
Ons motto zal, zéker in Birma, blijven: "Wij gaan nooit zomaar op reis maar willen ervaren hoe de mensen dáár leven. Deze gedachte maakt onze vakanties altijd heel bijzonder, soms ook wel zwaar, maar het verrijkt je eigen leven".
